Joy in Ascendance

For me, this painting is about the moment joy begins to rise from within—unrestrained, luminous, and fully alive. The feminine figure seems to emerge from color, movement, and fragments of an imagined garden.
The words inscribed on the canvas, “Régnez, plaisirs et jeux !”—“Let joy and delight reign!”—are drawn from Louis Fuzelier’s libretto for Jean-Philippe Rameau’s opera-ballet Les Indes galantes. They become an invitation to surrender to beauty and allow joy to take its rightful place within us.
